FAQs

What can I expect at my first visit?

Your first visit is a complimentary consultation. We would like to meet you and for you to become acquainted with our office and team. At this appointment, you can discuss your dental concerns with the doctor and review treatment options that are best suited for your needs.

Once treatment has been mutually agreed upon, your next visit will be a records appointment. At this visit, we will chart the soft and hard tissues of your mouth, make preliminary dental impressions, take photos, perform a visual oral cancer screening and take any appropriate dental x-rays.

What is the difference between a Turbyfill Custom Denture and a regular denture?

With the Turbyfill Technique of making dentures, we are able to avoid all the pitfalls that can easily happen with making dentures the conventional way. These include such important things as making sure that:

  • The inside of the denture conforms completely and accurately to your gums, bone and muscles of the mouth during function
  • Your bite is comfortable and balanced while eating
  • You are happy with the cosmetics—the look of the denture and position of the teeth

By using the Turbyfill Technique, we can solve many of the typical problems patients encounter with dentures made the conventional way. Once you are comfortable and satisfied with the fit and function of our diagnostic denture, we finalize your permanent denture.

How long does it take to have new dentures made?

Every denture that we make is precisely customized for you. Several factors can influence how much or little time it takes us to make your new dentures. On average it takes about six to eight weeks to make a full set of dentures.

Will I need adhesive with my new dentures?

Every mouth and patient is different. Some patients can eat anything from corn on the cob to easily biting into an apple. The ability to do this is dependent on many things, such as the amount of bone in the jaw, the height of the patient’s alveolar ridges (the part of the jaws the dentures rest on), the ability of the patient to control their mouth muscles and the fit of the denture. A patient who is deficient in any of these areas may feel the need to wear denture adhesives. If the patient is still insecure about the retention of their denture even with adhesives, then it may be time to consider having dental implants to help retain and secure the denture.

How long will my dentures last?

How long a denture will last can vary greatly depending on the patient’s chewing forces, habits and also the quality of materials used to make the denture. At the Florida Denture Institute, we use only premium materials to make our dentures. Our options range from the most durable plastic teeth available to all-porcelain teeth where indicated. Our acrylics are precision-injected into the molds and are odor and stain resistant. On average, you can expect our dentures to last from ten to fifteen years or more.

How often will I need my dentures relined?

It is a fact that over time our bodies do change. Our bone continually changes depending upon its usage. Many people believe that dentures need to be relined every couple of years. However, the main reason a patient needs a denture relined (besides having oral surgery) is because the denture’s bite, or occlusion, is not balanced. This causes the denture to become unevenly worn and unstable on the ridges and gums, hence the feeling of looseness or instability in the base of the denture. Using high-quality materials to make a denture reduces the need for relines.
